The Life of a Kitchen Floor in August (It’s Exhausting)

The Life of a Kitchen Floor in August (It’s Exhausting)

An honest account from the hardest-working floor in the house.

Hi.

It’s me.

Your kitchen floor.

August and I need to have a little chat.

Because apparently, summer means everyone lives in the kitchen now.

And I am exhausted.

6:47 AM: Coffee, Please.

The day starts innocently enough.

You stumble into the kitchen.

Barefoot.

Half asleep.

Coffee machine working overtime.

You step onto me and think:

"Ahhh. Nice floor."

Meanwhile, I'm thinking:

"Good morning. We've got a long day ahead of us."

Because I know what's coming.

Breakfast.

Lunch.

Snacks.

More snacks.

And somehow, someone will ask what's for dinner approximately 14 minutes after breakfast.

9:32 AM: The Backyard Door Opens

Summer has one rule:

Nobody stays clean for long.

Someone comes in from the backyard.

Grass clippings everywhere.

Someone else comes in with sandy feet.

The dog comes in carrying half the garden.

And suddenly your kitchen floor looks like it has been transformed into a miniature Alberta landscape.

Prairie grass?

Check.

Dirt?

Check.

Mystery pebble?

Obviously.

12:15 PM: Lunch Has Arrived

August lunches are chaotic.

Sandwiches.

Fruit.

Cold drinks.

Popsicles.

And that one person who apparently believes the kitchen counter is optional.

I'm underneath everything.

Catching crumbs.

Catching spills.

Catching the occasional piece of lettuce that somehow travels six feet from the cutting board.

Nobody knows how it happens.

I know.

I see everything.

2:47 PM: The Great Popsicle Incident

Summer wouldn't be summer without a melted popsicle.

Someone drops one.

Someone says:

"Don't worry! I'll clean it up."

Then they forget.

I sit here.

Sticky.

Judging.

Five minutes later, someone walks through it.

Now there's a sticky footprint heading toward the living room.

Congratulations.

We've created a crime scene.

5:30 PM: BBQ Traffic

Dinner time.

This is where things get serious.

Everyone suddenly needs something from the kitchen.

Then the backyard.

Then the kitchen again.

Then someone forgot the ketchup.

Back outside.

Then someone needs a plate.

Back inside.

Your kitchen floor has officially become a highway.

And there are no traffic lights.

8:16 PM: Guests Have Arrived

August is peak "Let's have people over" season.

Friends come for dinner.

Family comes for drinks.

Neighbors stop by.

Someone says, "We'll only stay for a little while."

We all know that's not true.

Soon, people are gathered around the kitchen island, laughing, eating, talking and occasionally dropping things.

Your kitchen floor doesn't get invited to the party.

But it definitely does all the work.

11:43 PM: Midnight Snack Department

Everyone is finally asleep.

Except one person.

They sneak into the kitchen.

Open the fridge.

Open the freezer.

Open every cupboard like something new will magically appear.

And there I am.

Waiting.

Barefoot.

Quiet.

Judging their snack choices.

I'm not saying I know who ate the leftover cake.

I'm saying...

I know.

What Your Kitchen Floor Really Needs

August is a good reminder that your kitchen flooring needs to do more than look beautiful.

It needs to handle foot traffic, spills, pets, kids, guests, food, and all the other chaos that comes with everyday life.

That's why durable, easy-to-maintain flooring is so important.

Luxury vinyl is a popular choice for busy kitchens because many products offer waterproof performance and easy cleanup. Tile brings serious durability, while modern laminate offers beautiful designs and excellent everyday performance.

The right flooring isn't just about how your kitchen looks.

It's about how well it survives living in it.

Final Thoughts From Your Exhausted Kitchen Floor

August is busy.

There are BBQs.

Cold drinks.

Bare feet.

Family gatherings.

Popsicles.

Pet paws.

Midnight snacks.

And approximately 900 trips between the kitchen and backyard.

So if your kitchen floor looks a little tired...

Don't judge it.

It has been working.

Hard.

Give it a little clean.

Maybe stop dragging the bar stools.

And if it's really had enough?

Come talk to the flooring experts at Simply Floors Ltd.

Because your kitchen deserves a floor that can keep up.

And your floor deserves a vacation.

Preferably one without people carrying sand into the house.

Sincerely,

Your Very Tired Kitchen Floor ☀️
